Anguish-Angler’s conception

While I am thinking of making a short game at the same time as the full-length game “The Ring of Volver” one of the candidates is a game called “Anguish-Angler”.

The game is intended to be about “fishing for and purifying suffering,” but it is surprisingly difficult to consider suffering that is universal to the time period and region. This is because if the game focuses only on modern afflictions that are applicable only in one’s own country, it may become a clichéd game that aims for immediate popularity.

So, for example, I thought about trying to incorporate concepts such as those handed down in Buddhism, but that would be too labor-intensive and costly to develop. That would be fine, but it would go against the site’s policy of publishing short games on a regular basis.

However, there are many aspects of Buddhist teachings that fascinate me, and I wanted to incorporate as much of the core as possible, but I also think it would be reckless and unwise to incorporate only the core of such a vast set of teachings. I wonder if there is a right balance.
